60 Second Album Review: Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Standout Tracks: Fences, Lisztomania, Girlfriend
Thoughts: If you’ve liked anything from Phoenix’s collection from the past 5 years, this album will be no exception. There’s no real huge changes in sound and by now you should know what to expect from a Phoenix album. Love Like A Sunset you could say is the biggest change in sound to this album (it really almost reminds me of Tortoise at times), but North from 2006’s It’s Never Been Like That gave us a little peak into something like this before. I was hesitant to score this album this high because of it’s likeness to previous albums, but when it comes down to it, it’s just a really well done, catchy-as-hell album.
Fun Fact: The term “Lisztomania” was coined by the German romantic literary figure Heinrich Heine to describe the massive public response to Franz Liszt’s virtuosic piano performances. There were allegedly screaming women at these performances, and the audience was sometimes limited to standing room only.
